Good gifts to mail to grandkids have to survive the trip, fit a small box, and still feel like a present when the box is opened three states away. Flexi toys do all three. They are light, printed in one piece with no parts to assemble, and they bend and hold a pose the moment they come out of the packaging. You can send one straight from our shop to your grandchild's door with your own message in the order.
This guide is for grandparents, aunts, uncles and godparents who live too far away to hand a gift over in person. It covers how to ship to a different address, how to pick a size for a child you do not see every week, what an order costs once shipping is free, and when to order for a birthday.
Enter your grandchild's address at checkout, write your message in the cart note, and order about two weeks before the day.
Why Flexi Toys Make Good Gifts to Mail to Grandkids
Mailing a gift changes what a good gift is. A big box costs more to send, a fragile one can arrive broken, and anything that needs batteries or assembly lands on a busy parent. Flexi toys avoid all of that.
They are small and light. Our classic sizes run from 1 inch to 6 inches nose to tail. Even a 6 inch X-Large fits in a small box.
They arrive ready to play. Every flexi is printed in place with the joints already formed, so there is nothing to put together and no instructions for a parent to read.
They are tough enough for the post. We print in premium PLA, which does not crush the way a paper craft does or tear the way plush does. The one thing it dislikes is heat, so a box should not sit in a hot car or on a sunny porch for long.
They are easy to add to. A child who loves a dragon this year can get another next year in a new color. A small collection that grows by mail gives you something to talk about on the phone.
Ship It Straight to Their Door
You do not need to order to your own house and repost it. Every order can ship to any address you enter.
Put your grandchild's address in the shipping fields at checkout. Your own name and email stay on the order as the buyer, so the confirmation and tracking come to you. Adding a parent's name to the address helps the box reach the right hands.
Check the address twice before you pay. If you spot a mistake, email us at sales@cosmic3dcreations.com right away. We can correct an address before the order ships, but once the carrier has the package we cannot redirect it.
Forward the tracking email to the parents. We email you a tracking number when the package leaves. Passing it on lets a parent hide the box until the birthday instead of finding it opened on the kitchen table.
Picking a Size When You Cannot See Their Hands
From a distance it is hard to judge what suits a child this year. The size is the choice that matters most, and age is a good guide.
Under 3: our flexis are not intended for children this young. Micro and Mini pieces are small enough to be a choking risk.
Ages 3 to 6: start at Regular (2 inches, $2.75) or Large (3 inches, $6). These fill a small hand and are easy to find when they roll under a couch. A 6 inch X-Large at $15 makes a good main gift for this age.
Ages 7 to 12: any size works. Children this age often like a mix: one X-Large to display, a few Micros at $1 each to carry in a pocket, and a Keychain for a backpack.
Teenagers: a Keychain or a single display piece usually lands better than a handful of small toys. Ask a parent what is on their bag or desk right now.
If you are unsure, buy one size up. A piece that is a little big still gets played with. One that is too small gets lost.
Gifts to Mail to Grandkids, Priced Out for Free Shipping
Orders of $35 or more ship free by Economy within the United States. Orders under $35 pay $3.99. When you are sending to more than one grandchild at the same address, one order covers the shipping for all of them.
Two grandchildren in one house: $35.50
Two X-Large Dragons at $15 each, one for each child in their own color, plus two Regular Axolotls at $2.75 each. Each child gets one big piece and one small one, the totals are even, and shipping is free.
One grandchild, a birthday box: $35.75
A Great White Shark at $15, a Happy Turtle at $12, a Large Dragon at $6 and a Regular Axolotl at $2.75. Four different animals give a young child something to sort, line up and play with for weeks.
A small note-in-the-mail gift: $6.99
Three Micro Dragons at $1 each in three colors, which comes to $3 plus $3.99 shipping. It is not free shipping, but it is a cheap way to send something between birthdays for a child who is old enough for small pieces.
Our best sellers are a good place to start if you do not know which animal a child likes yet.
Let Them Choose the Color From a Distance
Color is what makes a flexi feel like it was picked for one child, and it costs nothing extra.
Ask on the phone. "What is your favorite color right now?" is an easy question for a grandchild to answer, and it does not give the gift away. Write the answer down before you order.
Type it in the Custom color box. Every product page has one. Write exactly what you want, such as purple with green accents, and we print it that way. Each piece in the cart keeps its own color, so siblings can each have theirs.
Let us choose if you would rather. On designs that offer them, Surprise Me!! means we pick the color, and Rainbow - Will Vary means the color shifts along the body, so no two pieces match exactly.
For a dragon fan, the dragons collection has the widest choice of designs, from the classic Dragon in 1 to 6 inches to larger display pieces.
Timing a Birthday Parcel From Far Away
Every piece is printed to order, so the date you order is not the date the box leaves.
Printing and inspection take 1 to 3 business days. Large orders and custom colors that need a filament change can take longer. If an order will take more than 5 business days, we email you.
USPS transit usually takes 2 to 5 business days after shipping. That estimate comes from the carrier, and weather and holidays can stretch it.
Order about two weeks ahead. Eight business days covers our normal windows end to end. Adding a few days of margin means a late truck does not turn a birthday present into a belated one. For Christmas, order in November or the first week of December, because holiday mail is slower.
If you will see them soon, pick up instead. If you are visiting family near Como, Texas, or coming to Canton Trade Days, you can order online and collect the order yourself. Our Canton booth is 4268/4269, and the remaining 2026 show dates are on our events page.
A Gift Message and What Goes in the Box
A box from a shop can feel anonymous. A few words from you fix that.
Use the note box in the cart. The cart has a note field for color preferences and gift messages. Write who the gift is from and a line for the child, such as "Happy 7th birthday, Maya. Love, Grandma and Grandpa."
Keep the message short. Two or three lines are enough and easy for a parent to read aloud to a young child.
Ask first if the details matter. If you need to know exactly how your message will be included, or you want anything else in the box, send us a note through the contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can do.
Common Questions About Gifts to Mail to Grandkids
Can I ship to my grandchild and pay with my own card?
Yes. Enter their address in the shipping fields and your own details for billing. The order confirmation and tracking email come to you.
What if the box arrives damaged?
Ask the parent to take photos of the packaging and the item, then email them to us within 7 days of delivery. We will replace the damaged pieces.
Can I send gifts to two grandchildren at different addresses?
Each order ships to one address, so place one order per household. If each order is under $35, each pays $3.99 shipping.
Are flexi toys safe for a toddler?
Our flexis are not intended for children under 3. For a preschooler, choose Regular (2 inches) or larger and skip Micro and Mini.
Send Gifts to Mail to Grandkids That Arrive Ready to Play
The best gifts to mail to grandkids are the ones that survive the trip and need nothing from the parents when they arrive. Pick a size by age, ask the child's favorite color, put several gifts in one order to reach free shipping, and give the printer and the post two weeks.
Then write a short message in the cart note, forward the tracking email to the parents, and plan the phone call for the day the box arrives.
At Cosmic 3D Creations, every gift is printed to order in Como, Texas, in the colors you type into the Custom color box, and checked joint by joint before it is packed. If you would rather choose in person, come and see us at our Canton Trade Days booth, or order online and pick it up there.
