Good advent calendar fillers are small, cheap enough to buy 24 of, and still worth having on December 26. Candy fails that last test, and most tiny trinkets break before New Year. A 1 inch Micro flexi costs $1, fits in the smallest calendar pocket, and bends and holds a pose like the bigger sizes do.
This guide is for parents and grandparents filling a reusable calendar, a row of numbered bags or a box of little drawers. It covers which sizes fit, three ways to plan the 24 days, what each plan costs with shipping, and when to order so every piece is home before December 1.
Fill most days with $1 Micros, save a bigger piece for December 24, and order by mid-November so you have time to sort and fill the calendar.
Why Flexi Toys Make Good Advent Calendar Fillers
An advent calendar asks a lot of a small gift. It has to fit a pocket, cost little, and still feel like something on day 19. A flexi does well on each count.
They are one piece. Every flexi is printed with its joints already formed, so there is nothing to assemble and no small parts to come loose in the pocket.
They add up to something. Twenty-four pieces of chocolate are gone by Christmas. Twenty-four animals become a small collection, a scene on the windowsill, or a set of game pieces for the long week after Christmas.
They are quiet. No batteries, no sounds, no glitter. That matters at 7 in the morning on a school day.
They survive a pocket. We print in PLA, a rigid plastic that does not melt like chocolate or crush like a paper toy. A piece can sit in a fabric pocket for three weeks and come out the same as it went in.
Which Sizes Fit Advent Calendar Pockets
Most of our animals use the same size menu: Micro 1 inch, Mini 1.5 inches, Regular 2 inches, Large 3 inches and X-Large 6 inches, plus a Keychain option. Calendars vary a lot, so measure the smallest pocket or drawer before you choose.
Micro (1 inch) fits almost anything. Matchbox drawers, small felt pockets and paper envelopes all take a Micro. It is the size to plan around.
Mini (1.5 inches) fits most fabric calendars. It is easier for small fingers to bend, and the details read better.
Regular (2 inches) needs a roomier pocket. A long animal like the shark or the dragon may need a deeper pocket or a numbered gift bag beside the calendar.
Large and X-Large go beside the calendar, not in it. A 6 inch X-Large dragon will not fit in a pocket. Wrap it and set it under the tree for the last day.
A few designs use other size menus, such as the skeleton dinosaurs in Baby, Regular and XL. Check the inch measurement in the size option on the product page before you add one to a pocket plan.
Three Ways to Plan Advent Calendar Fillers for 24 Days
Pick a plan first and the shopping takes ten minutes. Each of these uses the classic size menu, where most animals cost the same at each size.
One new animal every day
Put a different Micro animal in each pocket. Over 24 days the child builds a whole zoo: a cat, a fox, a penguin, a shark, a T-Rex, an axolotl, a dragon and seventeen more. This is the cheapest plan and the one children talk about most, because every morning is a guess.
A scene that grows
Choose one setting and add to it each day. An ocean week, a farm week, a woodland week and a dinosaur week fill 28 days, so drop four and you have a December windowsill scene. Browse the full catalog by collection to find enough animals for each week.
Sizes that build up
Start small and get bigger. Micros for the first two weeks, Minis for the third, Regulars for December 22 and 23, and one X-Large on December 24. The countdown feels like it is building, and the last piece is big enough to sit on a shelf for years.
What 24 Advent Calendar Fillers Cost
These totals use the classic size prices: Micro $1, Mini $1.75, Regular $2.75, Large $6 and X-Large $15. Economy shipping is free on orders of $35 or more and $3.99 below that. A few designs are priced differently at some sizes, so check the price on the product page as you add each one.
24 Micros cost $24. With $3.99 Economy shipping, the whole calendar is $27.99.
23 Micros and one X-Large cost $38. That passes $35, so shipping is free. You pay $10 more than the all-Micro plan and get a 6 inch piece for Christmas Eve.
24 Minis cost $42. Shipping is free, and every piece is a little easier to handle.
The sizes-that-build-up plan costs $46.75. That is 14 Micros ($14), 7 Minis ($12.25), 2 Regulars ($5.50) and one X-Large ($15), with free shipping.
Two children, 24 Micros each, cost $48. Ordering both calendars together passes the free shipping line, which a single all-Micro calendar does not.
If your calendar has 25 pockets, add one more piece to any of these plans.
Colors for a December Countdown
Every product page has a Custom color box. Type the color you want, and we print the piece in that color at no extra cost.
Christmas colors are a request away. Red, green and white make a calendar look festive in the pocket. Alternate them by day, or give each week its own color.
Give each child a color. If two children share one calendar, print one child's pieces in blue and the other's in purple. Nobody argues about whose day it is.
Ordering many of one animal works too. Add the animal to the cart once, set the quantity, and list the colors in the Custom color box, for example "three red, three green, two white".
Some designs offer Rainbow - Will Vary. On those products each piece comes out with its own mix of colors, which suits a calendar where every day should look different.
When to Order Advent Calendar Fillers for December 1
Every piece is printed after you order, so plan the timing backward from the day you fill the calendar, not from December 1.
Printing and inspection take 1 to 3 business days. An order of 24 or 48 pieces in mixed colors can take longer, and if it will take more than 5 business days we email you to say so.
USPS transit usually takes 2 to 5 business days after shipping. Carrier estimates can slip in late November, when holiday parcels start to pile up.
Order by mid-November. That leaves time for printing, the post and Thanksgiving week, plus an evening to sort and fill the calendar before December 1. If your order is large or the date is tight, message us through the contact page first and we will tell you how long it will take.
Pick up instead of waiting for the post. Choose Pickup at checkout to collect in Como, Texas. You can also order online and collect at our Canton Trade Days booth, 4268/4269, on October 29 to November 1. Email us to arrange it. The December 3 to 6 show is too late for a December 1 start. All dates are on our events page.
Common Questions About Advent Calendar Fillers
Are Micro flexis safe for a toddler's advent calendar?
Our flexis are not intended for children under 3, and Micro and Mini pieces are small enough to be a choking risk. For a toddler, a flexi advent calendar is not the right fit. Fill an older sibling's calendar instead, or keep the pieces for when the child is older.
Do you sell the calendar itself?
No. We print the pieces, and you supply the calendar, the bags or the drawers. That way you can use a calendar you already own year after year.
Can I get 24 different animals in one order?
Yes. Add each animal to the cart separately in the size you want and type its color in the Custom color box. Micros are $1 across the classic size menu, so a calendar of 24 different Micro animals costs the same $24 as 24 of one animal.
Can I reuse the plan next year?
Yes. A different collection or a different color each December keeps the calendar fresh and adds to the collection the child already has.
Plan Advent Calendar Fillers From Day 24 Backward
Decide what goes in the last pocket first. If it is an X-Large, the rest of the calendar can be $1 Micros and the order still ships free. If every day is a Mini, the calendar is $42 and every piece is easy to bend.
Then measure the smallest pocket, choose your colors, and order by mid-November. Fill the calendar on the last weekend of November and the countdown is ready.
At Cosmic 3D Creations, every piece is printed to order in Como, Texas, checked joint by joint before it is packed, and printed in the colors you type into the Custom color box. If you would like to see how small a Micro really is before you plan 24 of them, come to our Canton Trade Days booth from October 29 to November 1 and hold one first.
