A dragon egg toy is a small printed egg that opens to show an articulated dragon curled up inside. We have three new ones: the Crystal Egg, the Celestial Egg and the Sugar Rush Egg. Each one is $18 with the egg or $8 for the dragon alone, and the dragon bends and wiggles like any flexi before it tucks back into its shell.
This guide is for parents, grandparents and dragon collectors choosing between the three. It covers what each egg looks like, how the colors work, when the $8 dragon on its own is the better buy, and what a set costs with shipping. If you are buying for a child who likes to open things, order With Egg; the egg is half the fun and costs $10 more.
What a Dragon Egg Toy Is
Each of our new dragon egg toys has two parts. The egg is a hollow shell that comes apart at the middle. The dragon is a print-in-place flexi, printed as one piece with its joints already working, so there is nothing to snap together.
You choose between two options in the Style menu on each product page.
With Egg is $18 and includes the dragon and its egg.
Dragon Only is $8 for just the articulated dragon, with no egg.
The egg is not sold on its own. The product pages do not give an inch size. The dragon is small enough to curl up inside its shell, and the pair takes little room on a shelf or desk. All three are in our dragon eggs collection.
The Crystal Egg: Five Colors and a Ring of Crystals
The Crystal Egg is the one for a child who likes gems and rocks as much as dragons. The lower half of the egg sits in a ring of jagged crystal spikes, and more crystals are scattered over the shell. The top half lifts off.
The dragon inside has big friendly eyes, a crown of crystal points on its head and crystal ridges down its back. The product photo shows it in purple.
It has the widest color menu of the three: Purple, Pink, Blue, Green or Orange. If none of those is right, pick Custom Color and type the color you want in the Custom color box.
The Celestial Egg: Wings, a Horn and Two Rainbows
The Celestial Egg suits someone who loves unicorns and dragons equally. The bottom half of the egg is covered in overlapping scales. The top half wears a white spiral horn, and white feathered wings fan out from both sides of the shell.
The dragon has big eyes, a tiny white horn, white wings and white spikes down its back. It looks like it belongs to the egg, which makes the pair a good display piece.
The Color menu offers Light Rainbow, Dark Rainbow and Custom Color. Rainbow filament changes shade as it prints, so the color bands fall differently on every piece. If you want the egg to match a bedroom or a favorite color, choose Custom Color and type it in the box.
The Sugar Rush Egg: An Ice Cream Cone With a Dragon Inside
The Sugar Rush Egg is shaped like an ice cream cone. The bottom half is a waffle cone with a crisscross pattern, and the top half is a rounded scoop that lifts off.
The dragon matches its cone. It has sprinkles across its head and back, horns shaped like little cones and wings with a waffle pattern. It is the most playful of the three and the easiest gift for a child who likes dessert as much as dragons.
It comes in two flavors, Chocolate or Strawberry, and those are the only colors. The Sugar Rush Egg has no Custom Color option, because the flavor is the color scheme. The photo shows Strawberry: a pink and white scoop with a pink dragon. It is plastic, so it is for play and display, not for eating.
You can see both flavors on the Sugar Rush Egg page.
With Egg or Dragon Only: Which Dragon Egg Toy to Order
For most first orders, With Egg is the right choice. The reveal is what makes a dragon egg toy different from a plain flexi, and the egg gives the dragon somewhere to live on a shelf.
It also changes how the gift is opened. Wrap the egg closed with the dragon inside, and the child gets two reveals: the paper first, then the shell. For a birthday or a stocking, that second step is the part they remember.
Dragon Only makes sense in a few situations.
A second dragon for the same egg. If a child already has a Crystal Egg, an $8 dragon in a second color gives them two crystal dragons that take turns in the shell.
Siblings who will share one egg. One With Egg and one Dragon Only costs $26. Two With Egg costs $36. If each child needs their own egg, the $36 order is worth it, and it ships free.
Pocket and stocking fillers. An $8 dragon on its own is a small, sturdy gift that fits a stocking or a party bag.
Collectors who want all three dragons. Three Dragon Only pieces cost $24 and line up well on a desk.
Choosing Colors for a Dragon Egg Toy
Each egg handles color differently, so check the menu on the page before you decide.
Crystal Egg: Purple, Pink, Blue, Green, Orange or Custom Color.
Celestial Egg: Light Rainbow, Dark Rainbow or Custom Color.
Sugar Rush Egg: Chocolate or Strawberry only.
When you pick Custom Color, type the color in the Custom color box above Add to cart. Plain words work best, such as "teal" or "black and gold". If that filament is out, we message you with the closest match before we print.
For a set of three, one easy plan is to let the Sugar Rush flavor set the tone. A Strawberry Sugar Rush pairs well with a Pink Crystal Egg and a Light Rainbow Celestial Egg. A Chocolate one sits nicely beside an Orange Crystal Egg and a Dark Rainbow Celestial Egg.
What a Set of Dragon Egg Toys Costs
Orders over $35 ship free by Economy shipping. Below that, shipping is $3.99. Here is what common orders cost.
One egg: $18, plus $3.99 shipping, for $21.99.
Two eggs: $36, which ships free.
All three eggs: $54, which ships free.
One egg and a second dragon: $26, plus $3.99 shipping, for $29.99.

Our two older dragon eggs
The dragon eggs collection also holds two earlier designs. The Dragon Egg comes in three sizes: the 4 inch Tadling is $12 with its egg and $5 without, the 11.5 inch is $18 and $10, and the 24 inch is $45 and $25. The Rose Dragon is $20 with its egg and $12 without. A Crystal Egg and a Tadling Dragon Egg set together come to $30, so one $8 dragon more brings the order over $35.
Common Questions About Dragon Egg Toys
Does the dragon fit back inside the egg?
Yes. On all three new eggs the dragon curls up and tucks back into the shell, which is how they are meant to be stored and displayed.
Are dragon egg toys safe for young children?
They have small parts, so they are not for children under 3. They are also not chew toys for pets. For older children, the dragon bends at its printed joints the same way our other flexis do, and the egg opens and closes by hand.
Can I buy just the egg?
No. The Style menu offers With Egg or Dragon Only, so the egg always comes with its dragon.
How soon will a dragon egg toy arrive for Christmas?
We print each one after you order and ship within 1 to 3 business days. Economy shipping adds its own transit time on top of that, and carriers slow down in December. We do not publish a holiday cutoff, so order early rather than in the last week before you need it.
How should I care for a dragon egg toy?
Wipe it with a soft cloth and keep it out of hot cars and direct sun, since PLA softens above about 140°F. A sunny windowsill in summer is the main place to avoid.
Pick a Dragon Egg Toy by the Kind of Dragon Fan
The three eggs cost the same, so the choice comes down to the person. Gem and rock collectors get the Crystal Egg. Fans of unicorns and fantasy get the Celestial Egg. Children with a sweet tooth get the Sugar Rush Egg. If they love dragons in general, our dragons collection has larger pieces to keep the egg company.
We are at Canton Trade Days this weekend, October 29 to November 1, and the next show runs December 3 to 6. To pick up a dragon egg toy at the booth, message us before you order.
At Cosmic 3D Creations, every dragon egg toy is printed to order in Como, Texas, after you buy it. We check each dragon joint by joint before it ships, and orders leave within 1 to 3 business days. If one arrives broken, tell us and we will reprint it.
